BERDYANSK, UKRAINE CITY GUIDE
Berdyansk (Berdyans'k on Ukrainian) is a port city in the Zaporozhye province of Ukraine; it is an administrative centre of the Berdyansk district. Berdyansk is located in Northern Priazovye on east coast of the Berdyansk gulf in northern part of Azov Sea. The city has been developed from a small settlement at the quay that has been built in 1827, to rather big city of regional value being in large transport unit and a well-known resort.
The coat of arms of Berdyansk has the French form as a rectangular. The escutcheon is divided into two fields - top is green field, on which the silver nogais covered wagon and the black plough is represented. These things show half-nomadic life of Nogais and arable of other local inhabitants; and in the bottom field - blue, a black anchor which tells that the lands of district adjoin to Azov Sea. The flag is a panel of dark blue color, with a white circle. In the center of flag is the full coat of arms of the city and a wavy yellow line. The population of the city is about 122 thousand, according to population census of 2001. The city could be shares on 3 districts: Nagornaja, Nizhnjaja and Kosa. Nagornaja district includes: Voennyj gorodok, AZMOL, Vos'moe Marta, Steklovolokno, AKZ, Sel'hoztehnika Nizhnjaja district includes Centr, Liski, Slobodka, Kolonija. Berdyansk - a mud and climatic resort. In 2005 city has received the status of a resort of the state importance. Estuaries and the salty lakes located near a mouth of the river Berda in the basis Berdyansk косы contain unique salutary mud and mineral sources. The basic medical factors are mud, water and thalassotherapy.
The climate of city is influenced by the Azov Sea that is located nearby. A climate of city is temperate-continental. You can visit in Berdyansk museum of regional studies; the Art museum named after I. Brodskogo; a zoo. There is one of the biggest Ukrainian aqua-park Mys dobroj nadezhdy (Cape of Good Hope). Several religion confessions are in Berdyansk. There you can find three churches and one chapel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchy; a Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchy; a Catholic church; a mosque; a synagogue; several Baptists churches. |
