Cherkassy museum of local lore is near the Glory Hill on a remarkable height, underlining the architectural its originality. Its authors have received “the Shevchenkovskaya award” for the museum project. Inside you can find: the weapon, ceramics and plates and dishes of ancient inhabitants of the Cherkassy area, stuffed animals, skeletons of dinosaurs, survival suits and food of cosmonauts and a lot of others interesting things. The children's park is in Cherkassy near to a bus-stop "Knitting factory". The entrance to the park is decorated with the small fish laid out by a mosaic and beautiful, as if fairy, the bridge. Knowingly this park is named children’s. It is the whole fantastic country with castles, towers, the konek-gorbunok and other magic attributes. Adults will like beautiful flower beds with the big variety of colors. The floral artists have made good work.
Park of 50-letiya is the biggest and interesting park in Cherkassy. It is on the bank of Dnepr far from bustling streets and industrial regions. This place is wonderful for rest by whole family. For children you will find children's playgrounds and attractions, for youth - a tourist line “Robin Hood”, for adults - cozy wood avenues, fountains, and stone sculptures. Everyone can find something interesting his or her own taste, the selection is great enough. Also in park there are some shooting galleries, the summer scene and cinema, a lot of kiosks with soft drinks. Also, one of the most popular places in the park is the Bridge of Enamored. On it newly-married couples are always photographed as the fantastic view to Dnepr opens from there. On a bridge handrail a lot of locks with autographs of enamored are fixed, wishing thus to fasten the feelings. From park it is possible to go down on steps to Dnepr, and to bathe or sunbathe. Along a path conducting to a beach, skillfully created streamlets run.
Park of 30 let Pobedy (the 30 anniversary of the victory) or as it the townspeople call “Samolet” (Plane) is at a crossroads of street of 30 let Pobedy and highway Smelyanskoe. The park Card is the monument - the jet plane of times of the Second World War. The park can be divided on two parts: The first one is relaxing-decorative. It is possible to meet there painters- amateurs or students-designers from the local colleges drawing the next landscape. There is also a Birchwood and fur-trees, and even high thuyas. Picnics with a family or with a beloved person are usual there. Everything is unites with the artificial stream intertwining with a very narrow footpath which will spend you through all the park. The second part is entertaining reddening. There are a lot of children’s and adults’ side-shows and entertainments: a review wheel, a roundabout, auto small town, children's playground, and trampolines. For adults: "surprise", the big swing and a shooting gallery with prizes are. The museum of wood art has been recently opened. There are the characters of a fairy tale “Buratino” cut out from wood. Pure air, water, green lawns – for these things people come to the park. Main alley of the park leads to the Cherkassy Zoo.
The zoo is in Cherkassy near to the park 30-letiya Pobedy (the 30 anniversary of the victory). It is convenient, as it is possible to visit at once two interesting places. The zoo enough big, here is a camel, a bear, wolves, foxes, a pony, cheerful monkeys. In lake ducks, white and black swans float. A zoo is constantly extending, new open-air cages are building. The Great Patriotic War already has ended long time ago, but memory of it is carefully storing. It is especially important to remember defenders of fatherland who have died for freedom of the descendants. In their honor is erected a memorial complex on the bank of Dnepr. On the Holm Slavi (Glory Hill) 3619 soldiers and 22 guerrillas who have died during the period from November, 14th till December, 14th, 1943 in fights for Cherkassy against fascist aggressors are buried. The monument represents the high hill towering over Dnepr on which there is Rodina-mat’ (a statue of Native land-mother) with eternal fire in her hands. At a statue foot the area with the bas-reliefs pictures showing the fight for Cherkassy. On tablets names of victims in battle for a city are embodied. Flower beds decorate grey concrete coverings of the area. From the hill the tremendous view on Dnepr, the Valley of roses, and museum of local lore opens.
Come down from the Holm Slavi (the Glory Hill) pass through the Valley of Roses you reach "the Garden of stones" - the heap of stones on sandy coast. This place is not very popular in Cherkassy. For this reason it is necessary to come here, as the garden is intended for pacification and a relaxation. Here it is possible to sit on the stones in shade of trees, to look at water, to listen to surf murmur, to think "about eternal". Hardly someone will break your rest, so, it is possible to sit here hours, not noticing time current. It is possible to come here with a beloved girl, romanticism and a solitude are guaranteed.
Cherkassy becomes more and more better with every day, comes nearer to the status of the place interesting to tourists. The proof to it is the new musical fountain located behind the area government. The fountain represents a successful combination of water, light and the music harmoniously connected among them and representing to public uniform ensemble. Some numbers of the streams shined with multi-colored lamps are shaken in a rhythm to music, giving to spectators the aesthetic pleasure. There are a lot of benches, beautifully cut bushes; bright lanterns well shine a way around the fountain. It is possible to hear there: a disco foreign hits of 80th, romantic compositions on a saxophone, classical music. Near a musical fountain it is possible to sit very long, not noticing as time passes. It will be especially pleasant to spend there evening with the beloved person. The fountain is successfully located in city centre; it is convenient to reach it at any time.
There a lot of temples and churches in Cherkassy, the biggest one is the Cathedral in honor of Svyatogo Arhistratiga Mihaila. Cathedral building has been begun in 1994 on donations of believers. As the architect the prior of a temple member of higher orders of clergy Sofrony worked. The internal court yard of a temple is pure and well-groomed. Near to an entrance it is possible to see an arbour, and, near to it, a monument to the monk who is kneeling at the broken bell. On a distant platform the small park with benches where it is possible to have a rest in a shade of trees is. Near a cathedral always a lot of believers, it is a very popular place. The cathedral interior gives good impressions. Skillfully painted walls and ceilings, singing of parishioners and improbable atmosphere will impress you a lot. Shining light which comes through windows in the top circle of the cathedral creates beautiful illusion of aureole.
In 1671 with blessing of metropolitan Joseph Nelyubovicha-Tukal'skogo in the bottom part of a city it has been constructed Svyato-Troitskaya church. In 1745 it has been reconstructed, and in 1863 instead of the wooden the stone church has been built. In 1961 the Cherkassk Executive Committee of the City Soviet of People's Deputies has transferred a premise of Svyato-Troitskaya church to sports club, and the church community has been deleted from registration because of the absence of rooms. In the early sixties the Svyato-Troitskaya temple has been taken down, as the construction of a memorial complex on the Glory Hill began.
Cherkassy art museum has been opened for visitors on March, 9th, 1992, in the day of 178th anniversary of T.G.Shevchenko birth. The museum is located in a beautiful building – in the city centre. The museum collection has been forming for 25 years by acquisition of products of showrooms of the former Soviet Union, purchase of works of art at outstanding artists of Ukraine, folk masters, collectors and restoration of works of the former private collections the count Bobrinsky, princes Lopuhiny, Belokopytovy which have been transferred in 1918 to the Cherkassy historical-pedagogical museum of Ò. G.Shevchenko. The exposition of the art museum consists of two sections: arts and crafts and the fine arts. The first section snows the folk art of average Podneprov'ya. There are the wonderful samples of ancient Ukrainian. Long since Cherkassy region was famous for a pottery. In exposition unique products of blacksmoke ceramics are presented of the village Pastyrskogo, a pottery of villages Gromy, Grushevka, Gnilets, products of Mankovsky majolica factory "Colorit", author's works of masters I.Suhoi, F.Gordovoi, M.Churukanov, M.Titarenko, a variety of products of painters- ceramics. The decorative painting is rather extended on Cherkassy region; it is presented by such masters as Irina and Sofia Gumenyuk, Tamara Gordova, Valentina Kuz'menko, Katerina Kaidash-Mashkovska. In the second section of an exposition iconography of ÕVII-ÕIÕ century, fine portrait painting of the XVIII- XX centuries are presented Essential addition to development of the modern fine arts of Ukraine is given by the big collection of the drawing presented in four halls of an exposition. The unique museum of one book - " Kobzar’" of T.G. Shevchenko has been opened in May, 1989 in a memorial building, in which from July, 18 till July, 22nd, 1859 in a family Tsybulsky T.G.Shevchenko lived. In the museum the history of the edition of works of T.G. Shevchenko, sources of his creativity, the most interesting editions are shown; the evolution of illustration of Shevchenko poetry is observed, and also " Kobzar’" in translations into different languages of the world. The museum is unique that possesses a considerable collection of Shevchenko editions that are exhibited not only as at a bookshop, but they are accompanied by documents and materials in a context of events connected with every of these editions. Besides it the museum is perfectly decorated by wood which is very harmoniously combined with exhibits and looks elegantly, cozy and naturally.
