CITY OF DNEPROPETROVSK, UKRAINE

Dnepropetrovsk the city coat of armsDnepropetrovsk is the regional centre of the Dnepropetrovsk area of Ukraine, the centre of the Dnepropetrovsk agglomeration. The initial name of the city was Ekaterinoslav (1776-1797; 1802-1926), and Novorossisk (1797-1802). It is the fourth city on population in Ukraine after Kiev, Kharkov and Odessa. Dnepropetrovsk settles down in the central part of Ukraine on both banks of the middle Dnepr in a steppe zone. The right-bank part is on spurs of the Pridneprovsky upland - basically, on four hills demarcated by gullies (steep banks) with streams.
