John Huge was the founder of Donetsk. The house of John Huge’s family is located on the Klinicheskaya St. 1. The house base was put in the autumn of 1873. It was the second house of John Huge, the first one was located in the estate of landowner Smolyaninova and represented an adobe hut covered with straw. The private residence was built of brick of local manufacture and in forms of style the Renaissance. The brick had pink-scarlet color. On the ground floor there was a terrace with the Renaissance arcade. On the second floor there was a balcony protected by a figured lattice. On a balcony also there were round columns. Windows were big, rectangular. The top arches of windows have been decorated by rectangular narrow ledges. The iron roof was painted in green color. The top part of a roof was topped by a figured pig-iron lattice. From a main entrance in a court yard the flat ladder of small height and conducted width. The court yard was paved with stone blocks. In a court yard flower beds, a fountain and arbours settled down. Arbours were twined by ivy and wild grapes. The house was built on an eminence and was in harmony with manor. From a balcony of the second floor all settlement Juzovka and metal works was visible. Huge’s family lived in the house till 1903, then they left Juzovki for ever.
The small Donetsk railway in the name of V.V.Priklonsky is the children's railway in Donetsk. It has been opened on November, 24th, 1936. During pre-war time was in park named after Shcherbakov. Work has been renewed since May, 19th, 1972 in Leninskogo Komsomola Park. The length of the children’s railway route is 2,1 km. Two stations "Pionerskaya" and "Shahterskaya". Station "Victory" is closed - with it extent made 2,9 km. On the railway diesel locomotives TU2-023, TU2-040, TU7-2734, TU4-2822 and five cars PV51 are used. There is a locomotive depot with stalls on three diesel locomotives.
Donetsk park of forged figures is a park with the sculptural compositions forged from metal. It is situated in Voroshilovsky area of Donetsk, in square near Donetsk city executive committee. It was opened in 2001. Here the international festival of forge skill takes place annually. The best works remain in park as a gift to the city. The glade of fairy tales on which there are cut out of a linden and hornbeam wooden sculptures of fantastic heroes nearby are settled down. The avenue of zodiac signs has appeared in park in 2005. Cemetery of German prisoners of war is a mass burial place in Donetsk where the memorial complex with ensemble of several stone crosses is constructed. It is in Kirovsk area of Donetsk, in mine settlement "Lidievka". The national union of Germany on care of military burial places which is occupied with subjects of burials of German soldiers in many countries of the world and welfare fund "Obelisk" undertook construction of a memorial complex and a reburial of German prisoners of war. Archival documents of Security Service of Ukraine and indications of witnesses have confirmed that in the tomb at the moment of cemetery building has been buried more than two hundred German prisoners of war. In September, 2003 on a cemetery remains of 1750 German prisoners of war buried in Donetsk area during the period with 1943 for 1956 were reburial. Remains buried with badges in which the data of died as it was possible to restore names of many buried on this cemetery was specified.
Feodor Andreevich Sergeev was the Russian revolutionary, the Ukrainian and Soviet politician, a member of RSDRP since 1901, founder of the Donetsko-Krivorozhsky republic, Sergey Kirova and Joseph Stalin's close friend. In September, 1927 on one of high mountains near the river Severski Donets the monument was opened. Its authors are sculptor I.P.Kavaleridze and architect G.V.Verbenko. This monument is executed in the style of Cubism. The monument settles down on the highest rock, much millions years ago, on this place the warm midland sea was. Cretaceous mountains were formed of its sedimentary breeds.
Mercalov’s Palm tree is a creation of Ukrainian master-smith Alexey Mertsalov, a worker of Juzovsky metal plant which has forged it in 1896 especially for the All-Russia industrially-art exhibition in Nizhniy Novgorod on which "Palm tree" has received an award - Grand prix. Mercalov’s Palm tree weighs 350 kg, its height is 3,5 m, diameter of leaves is about 2,5 m. In 1900 "Palm tree" was shown as a part of an exposition of Juzovsky plant at the World's fair in Paris where also has received Grand prix. The exact copy of “Mercalov’s Palm tree” has been placed in Donetsk into the square near exhibition centre "Expo-Donbas" on September, 12th, 1999. The original “Mercalov’s Palm tree” is in the museum of Mountain university in St.-Petersburg.
Monument of "Beatles" in Donetsk is the first monument of "Beatles" in the CIS. "Beatles" - the British rock group which has brought the monumental contribution to development of popular music. Figures of musicians are executed by the Kharkov sculptor Vladimir Antipov from plastic and painted under bronze. Figures are about two meters high and represent musicians during a concert. The sculptor has seen all anthologies of performances "Beatles" to reach the maximum similarity to the Liverpool four. The wall behind a monument is covered by a mosaic with the picture of the British flag. The monument is accompanied by music - near it "Beatles" songs sound.
Monument of A.B. Solov'yanenko is set in honor of the outstanding opera singer at a building of Donetsk National academic opera and ballet theatre of Solovjanenko and solemnly opened on May, 31st, 2002. As the initiator of installation of a monument A. B.Solovjanenko the fund "Gold Scythian" has acted. Monument A.B. of Solovjanenko is executed by the sculptor Skorih A. Ì and the architect Vyazovsky V.I. Monument-sculpture of the singer is executed in a concert suit of the Duke from an opera "Rigoletto" on a pedestal of the round form, leaning against the cylinders symbolizing theatrical columns. Solovjanenko A.B. (1932-1999) was the national actor of the USSR, honored artist USSR, the winner of Lenin and State awards of Ò.Ã. Shevchenko, the holder of an order of the Award of the Italian republic.
Donbass is the up-to-date football stadium in Donetsk, constructed in 2009; it is for 50 thousand spectators. It is home stadium of football club "Shahter ". It is located in the Kievskiy area in park of Lenin Komsomol. It has been constructed under the initiative and with direct support of the Donetsk businessman, the People's Deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament of 5 and 6th convocations Rinat Ahmetov.
Donetsk regional art museum was founded in Stalino (the former name of Donetsk) on September, 23rd 1939, as the Museum of fine arts; from 1941 it stopped the existence because of the Hitlerite occupation; in 1958 in Stalin museum of local lore the fine arts department was opened; in 1960 museum renewed work as Stalin art gallery; with 1965 as the Donetsk regional art museum. Museum collection was formed due to funds of republican and all-Union art exhibitions, from funds of leading state museums of the USSR, acquisitions of products from private collections and separate gifts. The collection of West European art of ÕV-XIX centuries has high level; it consists of works of artists of Italy, Holland, France, Germany, Spain, and Poland. One of exposition sections show to visitors works of antique applied art. Pride of collection of Russian and Ukrainian art of XVI – XX centuries the iconography collection, portrait painting of XVIII century and works of classics of Ukrainian art are. Modern Ukrainian painting is also presented. The museum has the big collection of products of modern Donetsk masters of painting, a drawing, a sculpture, applied art. In collections of decorative art of ÕIÕ-XX centuries the Poltava carpets, Kiev, Kosovan and Opeshnya ceramics, a decorative painting, Lvov gutnoe glass, Carpathian woodcarving, a national suit, and also works of modern professional Russian and Ukrainian masters of ceramics, textiles, glass. Donetsk regional museum of local lore is located in the Kievskiy district of Donetsk. The Museum makes research work. In structure of the Donetsk regional museum are included: Sergey Prokofiev museum in village Krasnoe, Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko museum in village Neskuchnoe, a museum of history of forest in Velikoanadolsky forestry. The museum was created on September, 17th, 1924. The teacher of geography of Donetsk mountain technical school A.A.Olshanchenko was the initiator of creation of the museum. The museum has strongly suffered in days of occupation of Donetsk and has lost the most part of collections. The part of documents and photos has been evacuated and rescued. In December, 1943 the museum was restored, museum funds had about 1000 exhibits that time. Today the museum is located in a four-storied building. Expositions are located on each floor in 24 halls. Annually the museum makes 40 exhibitions. Annually more than 200 000 visitors visit the museum. In museum funds more than 120 thousand exhibits are. Among museum funds are: paleontological, archaeological, numismatic, ethnographic collections, and also a collection of old printing books, a collection of cult subjects of XVIII-XIX centuries, collections of photos, product samples of the enterprises, personal things of known people of Donbas and other collections. Herbariums of rare plants of Donetsk area are stored in a paleontological collection; prints of fossil plants; remains of a mammoth, a woolly rhinoceros, bison; samples of stone trees. In an archaeological collection about 8 000 exhibits are stored. Among them subjects of Amvrosievsky ancient stand, the Mariupol burial ground, a barrow “Dvugorbaya Mogila” and others. Copper and silver coins XV-XVIII of centuries are stored in a numismatic collection. Museum of history and development of the Donetsk railway is at the Donetsk railway station. It was opened on August, 4th, 2000 to the 130 anniversary of the Donetsk railway. The founder of the collection which have put a basis of a museum is its director Vladimir Nikolaevich Donchenko. More than 2000 exhibits are presented by documents, awards, clothes forms, the railway tool and the equipment, old photos and other collection material. In a museum collection are stored: the edition of 1909 devoted to the 25 anniversary of the Ekaterina's railway, uniform of 1936, telephone sets Morse, the token device, a sign about leaving school named after Rudzutaka. The museum exposition is located in the former building of depot of station Juzovo. Museum consists in Fund of preservation of a railway heritage of New Europe, is a collective member of Association of workers of technical museums of Ukraine.
