Yalta city Quay in the name of Lenin is the central street of Yalta. It is bordered with palm trees and consists of a continuous line of attractions, bars, cafes and restaurants. The world-wide well-known winery association "Massandra", with two factories and the cellars hollowed in rocks in which wines are ripening, is at the Simferopol highway, over the Massandrovsky park. Excellent wines of "Massandra" and "Magarach" are really graceful drinks, comparable with works of art. Not without reason best of them try to keep. Both in "Massandra"and in "Magarach" depositories - enotecas are created. In them there are bottles that are saves for 150-200 years. In Verhnyaya Massandra there is one of the best architectural monuments of Southern coast of Crimea - a palace of Emperor Alexander III. It is constructed at slopes of a mountain ridge, in the lonely place surrounded with a forest. The palace history is curious. The building of the palace begun in 1881 by request of the successor of the governor - prince S.M.Vorontsov, but in a year the prince has died. In 1889 Massandrovsky manor of Vorontsov together with not completed palace was bought for Emperor Alexander III. In three years palace building has been finished, but Alexander III didn’t live there: in 1894 he has died in Malom Livadiyskom. The big Livadiysky palace is the former summer residence of last Russian Emperor Nikolay II and the main sight of Yalta. Livadiysky architecturally-park complex is one of outstanding monuments of architectural and park art. The palace has been built under the project of the remarkable Yalta architect, academician N.P.Krasnov (1865-1939) in style of the Italian Renaissance. In 1925 in the former imperial palace the sanatorium for peasants was, later, in 1931 was transformed to climatic medical combine. On February, 4-11th, 1945, three months before of the victory over Hitler Germany, in the Big (White) hall of a palace the Crimean (Yalta) conference of heads of the governments of three states of an Antihitlerite coalition - the USSR, the USA and the Great Britain took place on this conference "the Declaration on the released Europe", the decision to create the United Nations and other documents which had important for the destinies of the world value have been accepted. During the conference in the palace there was a president of the United States of America of F. Roosevelt residence.
“Polyana skazok” (The glade of fairy tales), located in 2 km from Yalta in picturesque forest land, at bottom of the mountain Stavri-Kaya (the Cross rock), became favorite vacation spot of Yalta townspeople and numerous visitors of the resort. It is an unusual open-air museum where on cozy wood clearings among trees, on hillocks and near ponds characters of national fairy tales - the sculptures executed by professionals-masters and national skilled craftsmen are placed. On the Glade it is presented over 300 sculptures of more than 25 authors of Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Armenia. Every year over 500 thousand visitors attend “Polyana skazok”.
The Yalta zoo Skazka (Fairy tale) is the only one private zoo in Ukraine. It is located near to Yalta. The history of the Yalta zoo began in 1990. Near to one of Yalta sights – “Polyana skazok” - has been created a mini-zoo. In it visitors could admire a yak, peacocks, bears, fiber and some other animals. In 1995 the mini-zoo was redeemed by the businessman Oleg Zubkov and has transformed it to a zoo. For 10 years the mini-zoo-appendage to “Polyana skazok” has turned into a high-grade zoo with all conveniences. There are some kinds of animals which are not presented anywhere in Ukraine more. In the autumn of 2009 the prime minister of Ukraine Julia Timoshenko has presented to the zoo a white little tigress on a nickname “Tigryulya” - the main PR symbol of her pre-election presidential campaign of 2010.
The Armenian church is the most beautiful building of Yalta. It was built in 1903-1907 by one of the greatest architects of Transcaucasia Gabriel Ter-Mikelov. In project basis sketches of talented Armenian artist Vardges Surenjants have been used. He also painted the church. It was last work of the painter; its ashes are before the building of the church. Forms of the temple created in ancient Armenian style, remind the church of St. Ripsime in Echmiadzin which is a masterpiece of the national architecture of Armenia. The former palace of the Bukhara emir in Yalta (it is located above Seaside park, to the West from the Quay) is the Monument of architecture of the beginning of the XX century. It has been built in 1907-1911. The author of the project Tarasov used plastic receptions and decorative elements of Muslim architecture of the countries of the North Africa. For the two-storied building the asymmetric composition, a combination of rectangular, cut and semicircular volumes, porticoes and terraces, loggias and belvederes are characteristic. Elegantly against white stone walls the openwork carving of columns with refined capitals, balustrades, frames horseshoe-shaped windows and a gear parapet over eaves looks.
Catholic cathedral “the Church of Immaculate Conception of Saint Maiden Maria” has been built in Yalta in 1906 by known architect Í. P.Krasnov. The same year in the church divine services have begun, however building of the church has not come to the end yet: the bellower (there is no it and now) has not been built. On the October, 20th, 1927 under the pretext of an emergency condition of the building caused by earthquake, the temple has been closed. Some time in it the sports hall, and since 1945 an exposition of department of the Soviet society, an exhibition of hologram, department of funds of the Yalta historical museum took places. In 1989 under the project of architect A.Grauzhisa in the temple building restoration was made and was opened an organ hall. Then have updated an interior, have established color stained-glass windows, have ordered in Lvov special furniture. The organ music house operated till 1991 when under the decree of the president of Ukraine the church building has been returned to believers.
Chekhov came to Yalta repeatedly. In 1898, because of illness of lungs, according to the advice of doctors he chosen Southern coast of Crimea as a constant residence. The writer has lived in the Belaya Dacha (the White Summer residence) as local residents have named the Chekhovian house, almost last five years of a life - till May, 1st, 1904. In October, 1895 the writer bought on suburb of Yalta in village Verhnyaya Autka a small land site. Chekhov charged building of the house to young architect L.N.Shapovalov. The writer took part in making the lay-out of rooms. In September, 1899 together with mother Evgeniei Yakovlevnoi he celebrated house warming. Simultaneously with building the writer is engaged with landscaping of the new home. Chekhov by hands in a stony ground planted more than 150 kinds of various trees and bushes. The museum exposition shows the active participation of the writer in a public life of Yalta. Every year Museum-house of A.P. Chekhov's funds in Yalta widen. Now the quantity of exhibits has reached 25 thousand. Most valuable of them are autographs of A. P.Chekhov, lifetime editions of his works, photos, Anton Pavlovicha's personal things, cards and photos with dedicatory inscription inscriptions of artists, actors, writers; I.I.Levitan's pictures. Yalta historical-literary museum has been based in 1892. The museum collection has more than 130 thousand units. The museum structure includes departments of archeology, history, culture of Yalta XIX - the beginnings of the XX centuries, department of exhibitions, and also literary museum Lesya Ukrainka, N. Z. Biryukov’s house-museum. Expositions of the museum - the archeology, history, ethnography – show the history of Southern coast of Crimea and Yalta. There it is possible to see the earliest in the Eastern Europe pebble tools, age 800 - 700 thousand years, subjects of material culture of legendary Tauris, materials from excavation of Roman fortress Õàðàêñ, things found out by archeologists at excavation of medieval fortifications, settlements, necropolises, Christian temples. The special place in the exposition is occupied with one of the best in Crimea collection of arts and crafts of Tatars of Southern coast of Crimea of XVIII - first half of XX centuries. Historical documents, plans of old Yalta, original specific photos and the illustrated cards shows the history of Yalta since time of its foundation as the city (1838) before its transformation into the best resort of Russia of the beginning of XX century. Museum of Lesya Ukrainka is devoted to the outstanding Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka, she three years lived in Crimea which became a cradle of her creativity. There she has written poetry cycles "Krimski spogadi", "Krimski vidguki", the story "Nad morem", a drama scene "Iphigenia v Tavride". Museum of Lesya Ukrainka in Yalta has been opened to the 120 anniversary from the date of the birth of the poetess on February, 25th, 1991. It is in former lordly private residence of E. F. Lischinskoi. In the autumn of 1897 Lesya Ukrainka stopped in one of profitable houses of merchant woman Lischinskoi. In the museum expositions are presented: lifetime editions of works of Lesya Ukrainka, a photo of the family, typical furniture, the Ukrainian national suits, and pictures of the end XIX - the beginnings of the XX centuries. Cathedral of Svyatogo blagovernogo knyazya Aleksandra Nevskogo is the main orthodox cathedral of Yalta, one of the sights of the city. It was consecrated in 1902 in memory of Alexander II. The building was built under the project of academician Krasnov and Lev Shapovalov. The cathedral is executed in the Old-Russian style with hip-roof porches of the Moscow-Yaroslavl school of XVII century. In a cathedral the Byzantium style, with a continuous walls pictures. The temple of prelate Ioann Zlatoust was built for the state accounton the personal petition of the general-governor of Novorossisk krai of count M.S.Vorontsov - as a cathedral temple of the future city. It is located in the centre of old Yalta, on an eminence of the Polykurovsky hill, surrounded with the Cypress Park. Originally the temple was built under drawings of architect G.I.Torichelli of limy sawn stone in pseudo-Gothic style of English country houses. The three-storied bell tower towering on 45 meters above sea level became at once the main town-planning and navigating reference point of the city. In the eighties of XIX century the temple of Prelate Ioann Zlatoust has been rebuilt by city architect Í. P.Krasnov who under own drawings has considerably expanded a building of the temple and has brought together its cross-dome space in one dome of the Byzantium style. The dome has been painted by a blue oil paint and topped by the big gilded cross. Since 1994 the relic revival has begun. The author of the new project became architect Alexander Valerevna Petrov, he taken for basis Grigory Torichelli's drawings, which were found in archive of palace-museum of Vorontsov in Alupka. For three years the beautiful temple has been built up. On November, 26th, 1998 the temple has been consecrated by the archbishop Simferopol and Crimean Lazar. Church of Saint Nikolay Chudotvorets has been built in 1916 under the project of architect V.N.Maksimov for sanatorium for low ranks and officers of the Russian imperial fleet sick of a tuberculosis. The Earth has been given in Nizhnyaya Massandra, in an appanage manor. After erection the health resort has been given under protection of Sovereign-Empress Aleksandra Fedorovnf. Sanatorium buildings have been named in honor of all children of the imperial family. In 1914 the first building in honor of grand duchess Olga in the presence of Nikolay II and Aleksandra Fedorovna has been consecrated. At the same time the temple for needs of patients of sanatorium was designed and started to be built. On October, 5th, 1916 it has been consecrated in honor of Saint Nikolay Chudotvorets and the martyr of Tsarina Alexandra - heavenly patrons of the imperial couple. The temple is executed in Old Russian style. Before closing in 1930 there was the collection of Old Russian icons in church.
"Uchan-Su" (Flying water in Tatar) is the highest in Crimea waterfall, it is located in 7 km above Yalta. The river Uchan-Su originates in limestones under breakage of Ai-Petri yayla; at height of 390 meters above sea level, it forms falls with the same name. Its water falls from height of 98 meters. Lower on a watercourse from steep rocks waters of three smaller falls are overthrown. Especially impressing show represents Uchan-Su in the spring and in the late autumn when the huge weight of the made foam water with force falls downwards, sometimes carrying away for it the big boulders. Over falls the cloud of a water dust hangs, and stream noise is audible for kilometer. In the summer only weak streams will run on a grey surface of rocks.
