Zaporozhye is a city in Ukraine, the administrative centre of the Zaporozhye area; it is located on the river Dnieper. The population of the city is about 790 thousands of inhabitants. Authorities of city intend to enlarge the city by connection to it Zaporozhye and Volnyanskogo districts as a result of it the population of the city will come nearer to one million.

Zaporozhye has its coat of arms and flag.The coat of arms show the board that is crossed, in the top green field two crossed guns, in bottom crimson field is a black bow with three arrows with edges directed downwards. The coat of arms is designed on the basis of the city Aleksandrovsk coat of arms of 1811. Guns and crimson color show Cossack victory emphasize the modern name of city. The bow means struggle against Tatars. In decorative cartouche the top element (instead of a city crown) symbolizes the Dnieper Hydro Electric station. The coat of arms of Zaporozhye has been accepted on 2003

The flag of Zaporozhye is a crimson flag with the city coat of arms on it.

The favorable climate and successful geographical position of Zaporozhye involved human beings there from old times. The most ancient site of primitive people in a river valley of Dnieper dated from an epoch of an average Paleolithic. At the end of XVIII century lands of Wild Field become a part of Russian empire. In 1770 Aleksandrovskaya fortress has been founded there - an advanced post in Russian-Turkish war this fortress has developed until 1806 into the city Aleksandrovsk – the chief town of a uyezd of Ekaterinoslavskaya province. Opposite to Aleksandrovsk the island Khortytsia lays on Dnieper, it has been the main place of Zaporozhye Sich - a stronghold of the Zaporozhye Cossacks.

PLC “Factory of lifting-transport machines” - one of large crane building factories of Ukraine which delivers production in the countries of east and western Europe, and also in the countries of Asia and Africa.
PLC “Zaporozhye automobile factory”, earlier making automobiles "Zaparozhets" and "Tavria", and nowadays - "Chevrolet", "Daewoo", "Opel", Bus "I-VAN"
"Khortitsa" - the largest manufacturer of liquor-vodka production in Ukraine and in the world. Zaporozhye Ferroalloy Factory

Kommunarskiy (140 thousand persons),

Ordzhonikidzevskiy (106 thousand persons),
Khortitskiy (122 thousand persons),
Shevchenkovskiy (157 thousand persons)

Shevchenkovskiy district is the biggest in the city, its area is 98 sq. km, and population about 160 thousand person.

In Kommunarskom districk a railway station Zaporozhye - 1 is located; it is a place whence Lenin Avenue begins. For 100 meters from station the Children's Railway is located which passes around the all southern micro-district.

There are theatres and museums in Zaporozhye, among them are: Regional drama theatre in the name of Magra, Zaporozhye municipal theatre-laboratory "VIE", A Theatre for Young People, the Puppet Theater, Horse theatre, the concert hall in the name of M.Glinka

The municipal transportation is presented by trams, trolley buses, buses, fixed-route taxis, a taxi, and local electric trains. To 2025 in city the construction of the easy underground is proposed.
